Struggling with avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) can feel isolating, especially when eating becomes a source of stress rather than nourishment. At Twilight Recovery Center, we provide ARFID treatment in Mexico clients can trust.
Here, we combine evidence-based care with a calm, private setting designed for healing. Our team understands that this complex eating disorder goes beyond picky eating, and we’re here to offer compassionate, comprehensive support tailored to each individual’s needs.
Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) is a form of eating disorder where someone consistently fails to meet their nutritional or energy needs due to restrictive eating or food avoidance.
These eating behaviors are not driven by body image concerns, but rather by sensory sensitivities, a lack of interest in eating, or a fear of feeding due to aversive consequences like choking or vomiting. ARFID may also occur alongside conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, which can further influence eating patterns.
Because this mental health condition can vary widely in how it shows up, early and accurate diagnosis is essential. Identifying the signs and symptoms as soon as possible can help prevent long-term complications and open the door to appropriate eating disorder treatment and support.
ARFID stands apart from other eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. While those conditions are often linked to body image and weight concerns, ARFID is not driven by a desire to lose weight or change appearance.
Instead, individuals with ARFID may experience persistent avoidance of food based on texture, taste, or past negative experiences. For example, someone may restrict food intake due to sensory discomfort or a fear of choking, even when they recognise the importance of eating.
This distinction matters. Without the typical body image component seen in another eating disorder, ARFID can sometimes go unrecognised or be mistaken for “picky eating.” However, the severity of the disorder can be significant, leading to medical complications, delayed growth, and long-term health concerns.
Seeking help for ARFID can feel daunting, but a structured and compassionate approach can make all the difference. At Twilight Recovery Center, our team uses a multidisciplinary approach to ensure each individual receives a thorough and accurate evaluation.
The diagnostic process involves comprehensive medical, psychological, and nutritional assessments to understand the full scope of the disorder. This may include reviewing eating patterns, identifying restrictive eating practices, and assessing for common co-occurring disorders. Our team also works to rule out underlying medical conditions such as gastrointestinal issues or food allergies.
From there, we develop a personalised care plan based on the individual’s needs, the severity of the disorder, and any disorders in addition to ARFID. Our goal is to guide you through the treatment process with clarity, compassion, and clinical expertise, so you feel supported every step of the way.
We know that when a young person is struggling with ARFID, the whole family feels the weight and stress of the journey. At Twilight Recovery Center, we incorporate family therapy and involve families every step of the way because their support can make a significant difference.
During pediatric ARFID treatment in Mexico, we offer guidance, education, and regular, compassionate communication to help you manage the challenges of meals and daily routines at home.
Our team will coach you, provide practical tips, and involve you in therapy sessions, meetings, and check-ins so you have the tools and confidence to support your loved one, not only during treatment, but also once they return home.
Being diagnosed with ARFID while facing substance use or other mental health challenges can feel overwhelming. We understand the added weight of shame, confusion, and uncertainty that often comes with dual diagnoses. Our team is here to help you navigate this complexity with compassion, providing coordinated care in a supportive environment.
We know that starting ARFID treatment can be overwhelming, and it’s natural to feel unsure or anxious about what’s ahead, for both you and your loved ones. At Twilight Recovery Center, our team is here to guide you with patience and compassion. From your first day, you’ll notice we prioritize comfort, safety, and a predictable routine that helps take some of the fear out of the unknown.
Our multidisciplinary team combines clinical expertise and experience with a thoughtful approach to each treatment plan.

The staff, especially Kike, became like family, and Harrison’s structured, strict approach was exactly what our loved one needed and what I needed to be honest. The home is nice, very clean, safe, and welcoming, and it supports both substance recovery and mental health, including depression/anxiety. We watched our loved one improve week by week, gaining clarity, gratitude, and a renewed reason to live. This place became more than a recovery home — it became family. I had to let go, trust the process and even though it was hard not knowing it was worth it. Weekly communication and updates as many times I would need kept me at peace. We highly recommend it to any family looking for REAL healing and lasting change. I believe this is the best place to start healing 🙏❤️✨️Posted on Beth FernandezTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The best part of this center are the beautiful people. It’s run with great love for each recovering addict. Harrison is one of the best humans on the planet and his open heart transfers to love in his homes. Bonus- he made sure my son’s teeth were repaired for so much cheaper than in America. I’d recommend hiring an English speaking family counselor for the last months to prepare for the transition home.Posted on Samuel NussbaumTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I stayed at Twilight Recovery Center for two weeks earlier this month. I was staying at the luxury facility. I personally didn't have any addictions, but I came to stay at the center for my mental health. During the first few days, I met with the doctor, and he checked me out. Also, a few days after this, the doctor came again, and he removed a big cyst from my face. It had been growing for several years, and I am very happy to be rid of it now. The doctor did a good job, and it hardly shows at all now, compared to how bad it looked before. The people who worked at the facility were nice and friendly. The nurses know how to make very good food. I had an omelet, oatmeal, and fresh fruit almost every day for my breakfast. Also, sometimes the workers would take us out to eat in restaurants as well. They gave me a nice room. My room even had its own private bathroom, and it had a sliding door that connected it directly to the outdoor area. I really enjoyed the outdoor area there at the Baja Malibu building. It has a pool and lots of plants and several palm trees. Also, I really liked the center area inside the building. It has a very beautifully designed staircase. There is a living room area at the top of the staircase with a couch and some chairs, and even a fireplace for warmth if the temperature ever feels chilly. Harrison has two little doggies that live at the facility. They liked to come sit next to me when I was on the couch. We went to recovery meetings almost every day, and the workers also took us to the gym to excerize each day. We had a weekly massage, and every Saturday, the psychologist came over for the day, and he took turns meeting with each one of us. I really enjoyed my time staying there, and I would certainly consider going again if I ever need to have some time to rest and take care of my mental health.Posted on Laura StockdaleTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The owner, Harrison Sidney, is so kind and accommodating. My daughter has been to several rehab and this is the only one that has actually helped her. It is definitely a very fair price and well worth the money. Thank you Harrison and your wonderful staff for everything.Posted on William BurkeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Everyone at Twilight was professional, attentive, and provided a personalized experience that I could not thank them enough for. I went through a particularly difficult detox, and everyone on staff assisted with pulling me through. The property itself was beautiful as advertised, and there were plenty of activities every day to keep yourself occupied and help the recovery process. I would recommend Twilight, especially if you are looking for a personalized recovery program!Posted on Dylan CheeverTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Treatment typically involves a multidisciplinary approach that includes medical monitoring, nutritional support, and evidence-based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy and family therapy. Programs often combine clinical care with supportive approaches to address both eating patterns and underlying emotional factors.
Eligibility is usually based on the severity of eating challenges, nutritional needs, and any co-occurring mental health or substance use concerns. A professional assessment helps determine the right level of care and ensures the treatment plan is appropriate.
You can expect a structured yet supportive environment focused on restoring healthy eating habits and addressing underlying challenges. Recovery is a gradual process, and care teams work closely with you to build sustainable progress over time.
Costs can vary depending on the program type, length of stay, and level of care. Many centers offer more affordable options compared to the U.S., and some may assist with insurance verification or provide documentation for reimbursement.
Treatment may include individual therapy, group therapy, and evidence-based approaches like CBT or DBT to address substance use alongside eating concerns. This integrated care helps ensure both issues are treated safely and effectively.
